This site counts its visits to learn which parts people find useful. It does this without cookies and without collecting anything that says who you are.
What is recorded
- The parts you open, how long each one is on screen, and how long you actively use it. Time while the tab is hidden isn't counted.
- Links to other websites that you follow from here, such as the "Learn more" videos and articles.
- Your browser, operating system and type of device (computer, tablet or phone).
- Screen and window size, language, time zone, light or dark theme, and touch or mouse.
- The website that linked you here, if any, and how long the page took to load.
Approximate location
Country, region and city, and your internet provider, as known from the network by Cloudflare, which carries the site's traffic. This is usually only as precise as a city, and sometimes wrong. The site never asks for your location and never uses GPS.
How visitors are counted
To count how many different people visit, the server makes a code from the date, your network address and your browser, scrambled with a secret key. It stays the same for one day and is replaced the next. It can't be turned back into your address, and it can't follow you from one day to the next or to other websites.
What is not collected
- No cookies, and nothing is stored on your device for tracking.
- No IP addresses are stored.
- No names, email addresses or accounts.
- No fingerprinting, no advertising, and no data is sold or shared.
The site does save a few settings in your browser: your light or dark theme, whether the side panel is shown, the animations' sound volume, and that you have already seen the start screen, so they are kept the next time. They never leave your device.
Where the data goes
It passes through a small Cloudflare service to a private Google Sheet that only the site's author can see, and is used only to improve this site. Messages sent with the Feedback button are kept separately, with the page and the type of device they were sent from.
Videos
The "Learn more" videos play on this page from YouTube, in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Their small preview pictures are loaded from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com) when the list is shown; the video itself loads only when you press it. While one plays, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to it.
Turning it off
Turn on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser and this site sends nothing. Ad and tracker blockers also stop it, and the site works the same either way.
